Porcelain & Whitewares
Whitewares typically refers to chinaware and sanitary ware for household and commercial applications. These products are typically alumina-containing porcelain formulations. Though porcelain formulations can achieve the required alumina content using natural ores and minerals, the choice of synthetic alumina dramatically improves the properties of the final product. Because of it’s purity and controlled physical characteristics.
Alumina is used in chinaware because of it’s thermal properties, particularly heat capacity. The improved thermal properties ensures hot foods and beverages will retain heat longer and remain as-prepared. Alumina is used in sanitary ware due to it’s dramatic improvement in mechanical strength. Improved strength helps facilitate the design and manufacture of thinner parts and more complex geometries.
Almatis aluminas for whiteware applications include coarse crystalline continuous ground products. The coarse crystalline products provide improved thermal properties and the controlled particle size distribution results in improved strength and fewer defects as compared to natural ores or minerals. Our products are available in normal soda and intermediate soda versions in case improved purity is critical to the application.
